The Office of the Superintendent of Insurance has information on how to resolve a complaint against an insurance company, options for settling your insurance claim, industry conduct complaints, and insurance industry information.

National Insurance Awareness Day - June 28

Canadian Insurance Services Regulatory Organizations (CISRO) is the forum of provincial and territorial regulatory authorities for insurance. Each year, CISRO leads and celebrates National Insurance Awareness Day on June 28 to raise awareness of the importance of renewing insurance policies and to encourage Canadians to discuss their needs with their licensed insurance professionals to ensure they have the right coverage for their homes and property.

OmbudService for Life & Health Insurance

OmbudService for Life & Health Insurance (OLHI) is a free, fast, independent and impartial alternative dispute resolution for life and health insurance consumers.

OLHI provides accurate and accessible information about life and health insurance concerns. OLHI will guide consumers through the complaints process, answer questions, and help find lost policies or policies of deceased loved ones.

General Insurance OmbudService

General Insurance OmbudService is an independent dispute resolution service that provides free, impartial help to Canadian home, automobile, and business insurance consumers.

The first step of insurance resolution for consumers is to try to solve the problem directly with the insurance company by contacting the the insurer’s ombudsperson. If a consumer is unsatisfied with the final position letter from the insurer, the issue can be escalated to GIO for an independent review.

Automobile Insurance Rate Board

The Alberta Automobile Insurance Rate Board (AIRB) is an independent, quasi-judicial regulator that is responsible for regulating automobile insurance premiums in Alberta. AIRB ensures a competitive marketplace and discusses topics like driver perceptions, loss trends, availability, affordability, and technological advancements with stakeholders and industry experts to stay informed and proactively regulate the auto insurance industry.

AIRB has a new consumer website with a number of resources to help Alberta consumers purchase auto insurance, select the right coverage, and understand their insurance rates.

Licensed insurance professionals must meet legislative and ongoing education requirements to have and maintain their license.
