Continuing education

Alberta-based licensees are required to obtain 15 hours of continuing education credits for each class of license they are renewing. Find out what your annual requirements are in this section.

Insurance Act & Regulations

It’s important to understand what is allowable and what is not when providing services as a licensed insurance professional. You’re encouraged to familiarize yourself with the Insurance Act and understand the legislative requirements.

Understanding Voluntary Undertaking Agreements

Part of the license process is determining that licensees are not in positions of power or have occupations that place them in a conflict of interest position. This section goes over what the potential conflicts are and how to disclose them.

Annual license renewal

The renewal period runs from May 1–June 30 every year. See this section for renewal requirements, renewal process, and also what to do if your license has expired.

E&O insurance requirements

Licensed agents require an active E&O policy meeting the terms and conditions approved by the Alberta Insurance Council. Read up on the E&O requirements and ensure you’re compliant.

Verify renewed and non-renewed licensed holders

Insurance companies should confirm that all agents, agencies, and adjusters through whom they conduct business hold valid and subsisting certificates of authority.
